  • Respond

    • How do we RESPOND to Jesus' presence and work?  As his disciples, we're empowered to continue his work on earth.  The following practices help us do what Jesus did.

    • Worship
    • Community
    • Prayer
    • Service
    • Witness
    Worship

    • Worship
happens whenever we cherish God and value him above all else in life.  When we gather for communal prayer and the Eucharist, we honor and adore the Trinity as the supreme treasure of life.  We open ourselves to God through established patterns, prayers, and readings, and are united with God and one another in the body of Christ and Holy Communion.

    Community

    • Christian community exists when believers connect with each other in authentic, transparent relationships that encourage growth in Christ and manifest His love.  Practices of community include hospitality, encouragement, peacemaking, grouping, mentoring, and accountability.

    Prayer

    • Contemplative prayer
is a receptive openness toward God, waiting with a heart awake to God's presence and Word.  It enables me always to be with God as I go about the day.

Examen prayer reflects on the activity of the past day to discern God's voice and work.  It creates deeper awareness of where I was and was not present to God's love.

Praise and thanksgiving takes stock of God's work in my life and in the world.  It delights in God and responds with gratitude.

Intercessory prayer invites us into God's concern for us, our friends and family, and the world.  It's a way we enter God's heart, and join in with His concern and prayer.

Prayers of lament are ways to approach God with the realities of sorrow and frustration that consume us.  It takes my complaints, anger, sufferings, and heart-aches to God.

    Service

    • Service
means offering resources, time, money, influence, and expertise for the care and nurture of others.  Acts of service give hands to the commandment, 'Love one another as I have loved you.'  They reflect the helping and sharing love of God in the world.  Service also includes compassion, justice, stewardship, and care of the earth.

    Witness

    • To witness means modeling and telling of the difference Jesus has made in your life.  When we witness, we reveal the life-changing love of Jesus to others in the hope that they too will turn away from wrongdoing, believe, and follow Jesus.
